Submissions
Submissions are the ultimate goal of a fight — techniques that force the opponent to tap or go to sleep. They occur most commonly after establishing a dominant position, from guard, or during transitions.
Two Categories
Joint Locks
Attack joints beyond their natural range of motion:
- Arms: Armbar, Kimura, Americana, Omoplata, Wrist Lock
- Legs: Straight Ankle Lock, Kneebar, Toe Hold, Heel Hook, Calf Slicer
Strangulations
Cut off blood (carotid arteries) or air supply:
- From back: Rear Naked Choke, Bow and Arrow
- From guard: Triangle, Guillotine, Loop Choke
- From top: Arm Triangle, Cross Collar Choke, Ezekiel, North-South Choke, Baseball Bat Choke
- From turtle: Clock Choke, Anaconda, D'arce
The Submission Formula
Position + Isolation + Leverage = Submission
- Secure dominant position (or strong guard)
- Isolate the target limb or neck
- Apply leverage using your whole body against their weak point
⚠️ Safety: Always tap early in training. Submissions cause real injury if fully applied. Release immediately when your partner taps.
